“Video Killed the radio star” Ah yes – I can hear you singing. And it’s true. Television did overtake radio as the media of the masses. And today as we’re all too aware, the internet is going head to head with TV. (By the way, we just heard that people use the internet for social media “more than for pornography.” If true this is the first time in the history of the web that porn hasn’t been Number One. Wow. Maybe there’s something to this social media stuff.) Back to TV. One of the reasons that the internet is winning the battle with television is the fact that we can now create our own channels. In the battle of BoobTube vs. YouTube, who do you think will win? Today let’s take the first step into the world of Youtube. JC

What? A channel? Yes, your own personal channel to highlight all that’s wonderful about your business. With Youtube being the second largest search engine in the world today it’s well worth our time.
Why? Google loves YouTube! So much so they bought the Company. In October 2006, $1.65 billion dollars were traded in a stock for stock deal. Chad Hurley, CEO and Co-Founder of YouTube saw the potential for the future and so must we. Here’s the deal – if you’re with YouTube and a customer searches for you on Google – guess what? Your video will appear at or near the top of page one – “showing” the world what a great company you are – or what a great product you offer, and so on.
How? Here’s a step by step approach:
- First google YouTube.
- In the top right hand corner you’ll see “create account.”
- Click on this and simply follow the instructions.
- Try and come up with a user name that is in keeping with your company name.
- Once this is completed you’ll be asked if you have a Google account.
- Now you’re beginning to see the connection?
- If you haven’t already done this then carry on and open a Google account.
- An email will be sent to you to confirm you are who you say you are and voila –you’re on YouTube.
- Now, here is the magic – click on your new user name and a drop down menu appears.
- Click on my channel and you can walk through this set up process as well.
Sorry, it’s a long walk but it’s well worth it. Now you can upload videos and feature them on your website without massive download times – as YouTube takes care of it all for you.
Tipzntrix: Once you have a YouTube account you can link it to your Facebook account. Neil did a great job on Day 5 highlighting the need and value of all these connections. You can add it to your email signature file, your contact page or even the home page on your website (and so much more). Soon we’ll be interviewing one of our panel of experts, video producer, Melissa Musika, from Indivine.ca. She’s amazing at making YouTube work for business. In the meantime why not check out our channel? Can someone pass the remote? (Uh, I meant mouse).
Your very own channel – we like this!
