Day 15: Let’s Answers some Questions at LinkedIn

May 25th, 2010 · We welcome your comments! [0 comments so far]

With Neil Godin

Intro note: I have a strong feeling that LinkedIn may be ‘the’ social media vehicle for building business (along with YouTube and Meetup). That’s because I believe in an approach I call ‘attraction marketing’ – drawing customers to us by positioning ourselves as ‘experts’ (as opposed to being just another person who sells what we sell, or does what we do). LinkedIn gives us an opportunity to position ourselves as experts through their ‘Answers’ program. Here’s how.

What? The Answers feature at LinkedIn allows members to ask questions, and ‘experts’ to answer them.

Why? In my case, I love to help entrepreneurs, business owners, business starters – anyone who is flying on their own wing vs. depending on an employer and a paycheck – to succeed. When they fail it almost always reflects the fact that they didn’t know how to market, and didn’t know how to sell (that’s why I focus on marketing on sales). So. Off I went (just a few minutes ago) to Answers – looking for a good question – which I found and answered. If I keep this up, they tell me I will rack up ‘expert’ points and may even be featured on the Answers home page. Sounds good.

How? First (of course) we log in to LinkedIn. Then click on ‘More’ in the top bar and select ‘Answers.’ On the Answers page, you’ll see a list of questions on the left – and a list of topics containing many more questions, on the right. Find a question you like. Type up your answer. And that’s it.

Tipzntrix: I noticed that many of the questions are asked by consultants, speakers and writers – and are answered by other consultants speakers, and writers. (Hmm. Experts drinking each others’ bath water?). To avoid this, I checked on the asker of each question – looking for people who actually need advice. And, I suggest that you do the same.
