Day 17: Google loves Blogs!

Neil just wrote a great article for our TnT (Tuesday and Thursday) newsletter about  whether a business can get by without a website. It’s prompted some great discussions. Suppose you do have a website – then what? Have you ever considered adding a Blog?

What is a Blog? In simple terms it’s a web log – a series of entries designed to pass information in a clear and friendly fashion. You might recall the Oscar nominated movie Julie & Julia released last year where a young NY lady Julie Powell decides to cook her way the famous cookbook written by the amazing Julie Child. Here’s a link http://www.sonypictures.com/homevideo/julieandjulia/ Pretty cool subject to blog about huh? A blog is a Social Media tool that is often overlooked and totally under-rated.

Why? Write a blog –who’s got the time for that? Good question but as we’re finding along our 90 day challenge that Social Media does take time for sure – but what a rich investment! Anyhow, back to Neil’s website comment – suppose you do have a website – is it working for you or is it just a pretty e-brochure sitting in one of the gigantic cyber-malls waiting for traffic to come visit? What if you could find ways to drive that traffic to your site? You see, Google is constantly looking for good content and although our websites may start off well if we don’t keep updating them, then, in time Google passes over them looking for new and fresh information to feed it’s readers search request. But wait – stop – who has the expertise to keep a website site updated? Good point – and that Dear Watson is why a blog is a marvelous medium to master – How? – elementary! We’re writing one everyday – http://www.neilgodin.com/marketingdangerouslyblog/ and btw we’re on page 1 of Google!

How?
As we’ve already created our Google account for our YouTube channel let’s go with Blogger.com – Google’s free and easy to use blog. (There are many others)

1. Sign in with your Google ID
2. Click on create your own blog
3. Choose a name (remember to keep that branding consistent) and select a URL to add to the http:/.blogspot.com
4. Choose a template
5. And you’re ready to blog!
