Day 18: Google loves Blogs! Part 2

May 28th, 2010 · We welcome your comments! [0 comments so far]

With Jonathan Christian

Neil just wrote a great article for our TnT (Tuesday and Thursday) newsletter about
whether a business can get by without a website. It’s prompted some great discussions. Suppose you do have a website – then what? Have you ever considered adding a Blog? Does the very idea scare you to oblivion? Fear not -all is not as first seems….

What is a Blog? As we read yesterday it’s a web log  – a series of entries designed to pass information in a clear and user-friendly fashion. But what is its value for business? We now know it’s value in giving your website regular updates keeping you “Google fresh” but is that all? Let’s look at it from a whole different angle – Here is a great blog post from someone I respect and follow on Facebook – Jessica Swanson from Shoestring Marketing entitled Ten popular small business blog posts to get you started: http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1717592522#!/notes/shoestring-marketing/10-small-business-blog-posts/397782115758
Brilliant! – Couldn’t have written any better myself –so I chose to link instead. Thanks Jessica for letting us share!

Why? Would we refer to another marketing company? This is a wonderful aspect of Social Media that positions you as a resource worth following. You learn about how Jessica blogs and we took you there – a win/win for us all. I know that our blog’s are quoted and used http://www.neilgodin.com/marketingdangerouslyblog/
Don’t you just love all these new resources at our fingertips. As Neil says it’s the ‘word of mouse!

How do we do this? When you come across a great blog or article or video – share it with your own followers. On Twitter you can Retweet “RT”. On Facebook you can “Like” a page or comment. On Linked in you can add your own comments to an article. On YouTube you can share the video on your Facebook page or add it as a favorite to your own channel. Get the idea? I do this often and have even has messages back from the original writer thanking me for the Retweet as well as many colleagues who appreciated the content.

Tipzntrix: Become the expert – the person to follow. Who has time to search the web over and over for good ideas and examples? But, we do have time to follow a select few who have gained our trust and keep providing great content that we can in turn reuse and even pass on.
