With Neil Godin
What? How to expand your network on LinkedIn – “the” social networking vehicle for building business.
Why? Just having a profile on LinkedIn is not enough. Why? Because LinkedIn has the power to expand your present network – dramatically – by leveraging your present network. In other words, by connecting you with people who are connected to the people you are alreadry connected with…and then connecting you to people in “their” networks. And so on. And so on. Get the idea?
How? It all starts when you import the people in your email data base(s) into your LinkedIn family. If you are an Outlook user, here are the simple steps.
To import contacts from Outlook using Internet Explorer:
- Log in to LinkedIn
- Click on “Add Connections” from the “Contacts” dropdown menu (found in the top navigation bar of the home page).
- Click on the “Import Contacts From Outlook” link found in the “Import Your Desktop Email Contacts” box. All of these contacts will appear on the “Imported Contacts” page. This will take you to a page that will allow you to invite any of the new imported contacts.
- Uncheck the “Select All” box at top of list if you do not want to send invitations to all imported contacts.
- Select those contacts you wish to send an Invitation to connect with on LinkedIn.
- Click on “Invite Selected Contacts”.
If you use a different email program, no problem. Simply go to: http://snipurl.com/xe9o5 and follow the instructions for your specific email program.
Tipzntrix: Don’t just “tick” the box that says “select all.” Review your list of email contacts and do not include any people in your email list who might say, “I Don’t Know (you)” (IDK). LinkedIn will suspend you if you have too many of these “rejects.” One key to LinkedIn success? Only ask people you know to connect with you. Questions? You know the drill.
