What? How to use ‘Follow Friend’ on Twitter. Follow Friend (FF), sometimes known as ‘Follow Friday,’ is a great way of endorsing Fellow Tweeple (that’s Twitter speak for colleagues – get it?). And it reminds me of growing up in the UK. Why? Because as children we became followers of an ingenious marketing campaign by Cadbury Chocolates called, “Thank Crunchie it’s Friday!” Everyone used to buy a delicious Crunchie candy bar that they would eat at school or at work on Friday. this was brilliant – I can still taste that honeycomb center covered in delicious Cadbury milk chocolate. Mmm.)
Why? Why am I talking about candy? Well, because it was a fun activity that worked superbly well for Cadbury. Now, the Social Media Mavens have created another fun and worthy Friday activity – the #FF. Using #FF, we have an opportunity to recommend friends who we think others should follow on Twitter. We all know the value of a referral and an introduction by a trusted colleague – well, here’s a whole new and simple way of doing just that with Social Media.
How? When we follow someone (or when we are followed) we can link to his or her Twitter page. There (in their Bio box) is a hyperlink to their website – and in a click of the mouse we’re on their home page – discovering all about their business and product or service. Every so often we’re bound to discover a real gem and we all know the value of recommending a great resource to a friend in need. So. Quite simply, we cut and paste their Twitter name – type an #ff in front of it – and post it in the top of the page’s ‘What’s Happening’ dialogue box. An instant and effective way of growing those wonderful lists we all need and value. Got it? (If you haven’t got it and you need help, why not email me at jonathan@wemakestuffhappen.com)? I’d love to hear from you.)
Tipzntrix: Once again Social Media is all about trust. When you become a trusted source, people will follow – not just you, but whoever you recommend – trust me! Here’s a person you should follow right now: #ff neilgodin. (Oh, and pass the Crunchy – it’s Friday!)
