What? Last Monday I said I would write another piece on using HootSuite to send multiple messages – via several social media platforms – all at once. And I said that I would follow up with an item on how to delay the release of your messages so that they go out when you want them to. So. Here we go.
Why? As I said, HootSuite allows you to write one message – and then send it out via several social media outlets at the same time. I also learned that you can time the release of your messages to suit your schedule. I was alerted to this functionality by my colleague Shane Morgan, who told me that he uses the scheduler to program the release of a series of notices regarding his monthly Smart Thinking Marketing seminars in Langley, BC. So, of course, I wanted to share this little HootSuite bonus feature with you as well.
How? I just logged in to HootSuite and wrote a message saying that I was writing an article about HS’s scheduled release feature. And I timed the message to be released at 2 p.m. tomorrow
(Monday, July 5). If you and I are connected on LinkedIn, Facebook or Twitter (and if this works) you can look for that message at that time.
Here are the (very simple) how-to’s:
1. Go to www.hootsuite.com
2. Sign in (if you haven’t yet set up your HS account, please see last Monday’s blog post, June 28, for details)
3. When you log in, click on the picture of the owl at top left
4. Then write a message that you would like to have sent out using your social media platforms
5. Now click on the calendar icon below the message box
6. Now choose the date you want, and then the time you want, to send your message out
7. Then click ‘schedule’ and you’re done!
Tipzntrix: If you need to shrink a large URL so it fits in a tiny Twitter message (via HootSuite), no trouble. There’s a window right below the message box where you can paste in the long URL and ‘click’ to have it shrunk right there on the spot. Also – want to attach a photo, video, or file? Simply click on the paper clip. You can also save your message as a draft, in case you want to send the same message out again later (as Shane does) – or save it so you can edit or add to it. This platform is a-ma-zing !!
