Day 42: How entrepreneurs are actually using Social Media to develop and grow their business

What? Last week we started a series of interviews with Marketing Dangerous Social Media Masters on how they’re actually doing what we write about. Okay  – lights, camera, action – I’m on Skype with The Twizzard – actor and buffoonery workshop leader, Trilby Jeeves. She spoke at our recent Meetup to a packed audience about the various attributes and uses of Twitter. During our interview I was able to delve deeper into the magic world of doing business with The Twizzard.

Why? Trilby shared two excellent examples of how social media has helped her develop and facilitate her business (http://buffooneryworkshops.com/ ). Example One: On a business trip to LA she needed a studio facility. How to find the right location? Tweet it, of course – and almost immediately a solution was found. Not only was the problem solved, a follower of a friend turned out to be with Cirque de Soleil. They connected through Twitter and are now planning a joint venture here in Vancouver this summer. Example Two: On location in Singapore she needed a specific male character actor. She tweeted away and once again a connection was made – almost immediately. Even when arranging our interview we tweeted each other directly – and then made contact using Facebook Chat. (I’m discovering that the more connection options we have the easier it becomes to communicate).

How? Trilby has yet to ‘branch out’ (that’s a little tweet joke) to a smart phone – so all of her interaction is via her laptop. Imagine the additional speed of contact she will have on her smart phone (I don’t think it will be long!). Here at Marketing Dangerously we don’t have several thousand followers but we do have a few hundred – and each of those has several hundred as well. So we’re going to start using the Twitter System (The Twystem?) even more to promote our programs.

Tipzntrix: Trilby made a profound statement during our interview: “Do you remember when email first came out?” she asked. “How foolish would you feel today if you had closed your mind to the possibilities of that medium?” Great point TJ.  I would add that Social Media is like email on steroids – and we’d better keep our minds wide open!
